After months and months of preparation, the date was finally here! I had the pleasure of meeting an awesome group of photographers from all over southern California. We also had photographers that came all the way from Texas and San Francisco! So honored to have these people come join me for a day of learning!
For the workshop, we covered many topics that are relevant to today’s wedding photography business. We live in a time where big companies like Nikon tells everybody YOU CAN BE A PHOTOGRAPHER if you buy a nice camera. And maybe have the good looks of Ashton Kutcher wouldn’t hurt, either. It really has done nothing but to make the market super saturated with new ‘photographers’ popping up everywhere. I am not saying it’s a bad thing, it’s just merely an observation. Heck, I was one of those ‘newbie’ photographers who just bought a camera, and started shooting my friends & family, too. So if you are a serious photographer who wants to make a full time living shooting weddings, what do you do? In the workshop, we talked about how to differentiate from the rest of the pack. We also talked about creating sub-categories so your brand of photography is truly unique and memorable. In addition, we also covered the following relevant topics;
– Utilizing social media to market your brand for free.
– creating a unique brand
– pricing strategy to have clients book at the package you want them to book.
– pre & post wedding work flow.
– What to say during a wedding consultation.
– How to make connections with other photographers & vendors.
– Portfolio/website critique.
– Stylized bridal shoot.
We spent the entire day together; got to know each other more than just faces behind the cameras. We shared each other’s aspirations and will hold each other accountable for the next year! To all of my awesome attendees, thank you again for spending the day with me. I hope you walk away from the workshop feeling recharged and ready to KICKSTART your business in 2013!
I also want to thank all the generous sponsors and vendors who offered their time, talent, and special discounts to our attendees!
