Is this really my only second post of 2011?? I had to concentrate on accomplishing the goals I have set for my business in 2011, therefore I took almost the entire month of January off from photography. And so far, I have knocked off quite a few items off my list! It’s amazing how much you can get done if you just write it down on a piece of paper. The scary thing is also knowing exactly how much more needs to be done!
First off, you might notice that we actually have a logo now. The reason I am saying that is the old ‘logo’ consisted of different fonts put together. For 2011, I wanted to actually have a recognizable logo that can be printed onto letterhead, business cards, album covers, etc.. I knew the logo should reflect my photography brand; clean, modern, and minimalist. When I compose an image, I tend to keep those three things in mind. So it was great that I actually liked a logo that evokes the same feelings for me. I still kept the same handwritten font type but I updated it to create a feeling of maturity. I can’t wait until I get the custom made business cards with my new logo! I also updated my portfolio website to reflect the new logo. Head on over there and check it out!
Another thing I wanted to improve upon was my workflow. Most people don’t realize that the bulk of the work happens AFTER the event. For example; with a typical wedding I usually get about 2000~2600 images between my 2nd shooter and myself. Then, I narrow it down to the best images I can deliver and that’s when the ‘editing’ starts. So for 2011, I am trying to be more efficient than I was before. This continues to be the part that a lot of photographers struggle with since time equals money for what I do. There are a ton of resources out there on how to have a better work flow. But it all boils down to one thing for photographers…take better pictures SOOC (straight out of camera).
The biggest purchase I did in January was to invest in a brand spanking new 27″ iMAC. It should be a law that EVERYBODY must view my website/blog on an iMAC! The images practically jump out at you, and it’s just such a beautifully designed machine. And I am proud to announce that I am officially a MAC convert! Can’t believe it took me this long to make the jump from PC to an Mac. And you know what they say..once you go Mac, you will never go back. Okay, I just made that up, but you know what I mean.
For February, I have a wedding, a 10 year vow renewal ceremony, a family shoot, a high fashion shoot in Las Vegas, etc.. So things will definitely pick up a bit here on the blog. Check back soon! Leave me a comment here and let me know what you think of the new blog/website!
